ERIC PALMER- AMANING (PHD)

Dr. Eric Palmer-Amaning was appointed the 4th President of the Anglican University College of Technology (ANGUTECH) on the 1st of March, 2024.

 

He is a General Surgeon by profession and a passionate teacher with several years of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Many of his former students and trainees are currently occupying responsible positions in the Medical and Academic fraternities both at home and abroad and performing impressively well.

 

Before joining ANGUTECH as Head of the Department of Physician Assistantship as well as Dean of the School of Food and Health Sciences in 2021, Dr. Amaning worked at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as a Senior Lecturer for several years.

 

Dr. Amaning was educated at the Abuakwa State College, Kyebi and the University of Ghana (Legon) where he studied Chemistry and Biochemistry, graduating with a BSc. He subsequently travelled to Poland on a Ghana Government Scholarship to study Medicine, graduating as Medical Doctor (MD) at the Karol Marcinkowski University of Medical Sciences in Poznan.

 

He continued to train as a Specialist General Surgeon, and obtained his Fellowship in the year 1990. He also undertook training in Surgical Research as a Fellow at the Institute of Transplantation Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw from where he obtained his “Doktor nauk Medycznych” (Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine) degree.

 

He is a foundation Fellow and Examiner in General Surgery of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and occasionally undertakes the role of External Examiner in General Surgery at the School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Development Studies, Tamale.

 

An ardent Presbyterian, Dr. Amaning worships at the Ramseyer Memorial Presbyterian Congregation, Adum in Kumasi. He is also a committed member of the Scripture Union, Ghana and fellowships at the Old Guards SU Group at Adum in Kumasi.

 

He is married with three grown-up children.
