An eminent engineer and miner, Dr. Daniel M. A. Owiredu, chairman of the governing council of the Anglican University College of Technology.
An immediate past President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, he was the Vice-President (Operations) in 2006 and Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of the Golden Star Resources in 2013.
Dr Owiredu who holds a BSC Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and an MBA from Strathclyde Business School in Scotland, UK, has served as the Managing Director of the then Ashanti Goldfields, Bibiani Mine, Sugri Mine in Guinea and the Obuasi Mine.
An engineer with more than 30 years experience in the mining sector, 20 years of which was in senior management positions in Africa, Dr Owiredu rose through the ranks from Assistant Mechanical Engineer (upon joining Ashanti Goldfields), to become the first indigenous Chief Engineer of the underground mining operations at the Obuasi Mine.
Dr Owiredu also served as the Chief Operating Officer, West Africa and Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Africa.
Dr Owiredu was the leader of the executive task force which together with Johnson Harvey Consultants crafted the growth strategy for Ashanti Goldfields under the leadership and guidance of Sir Sam Jonah.
